In a gesture of support and solidarity with the Cuban people, Canadian friends donated medical supplies to assist with the healthcare provided to the country’s people.
The reception ceremony was attended by representatives of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and the Medical Supplies Company (EMSUMME).
Julia Durruthy Molina, national deputy coordinator of the CDRs, stated that this donation, consisting of surgical sutures and electrocardiogram electrodes, is possible thanks to the efforts of the Network of Canadians in Solidarity with Cuba, which overcame the barriers of the blockade to help Cuba in this way.
Durruthy Molina emphasized that this network, made up of different families led by Bill Ryan of the Cubacán Project, has, in the past, triumphed over imperialism by sending bicycles, sports equipment, musical instruments, school supplies, canes for the visually impaired, including Braille machines, and everything else that goes with this.
On behalf of the population, the CDR leader expressed her gratitude for this example of solidarity, which demonstrates that the Caribbean nation is not alone.
Lenin González Batista, director of EMSUME, stated that 30,000 sutures and 10,000 electrodes have been received, which will subsequently be distributed according to the priorities established by the Ministry of Public Health.
González Batista emphasized the importance of these resources because they come at a time when the measures the U.S. government has imposed against the nation are being felt with increasing severity.
Aranelis Barbán Rodríguez, national ideological secretary of the CDR, told the Cuban News Agency that this event is part of the organization’s efforts to facilitate collaboration between Cuba and the world.
He concluded that this action was carried out within the framework of the activities held for the 65th anniversary of the CDR, which will be celebrated on September 28th.
